“I have a slow metabolism.”
We’ve all said it. Or heard it. Or read it on Instagram under a photo of someone who looks like they’ve never moved slowly in their life.
But here’s a fact that will shock half the internet:
Your metabolism probably isn’t slow. It just doesn’t do what you think it does.
What is metabolism, really?
Short version: metabolism is everything your body does to keep you alive. You breathe? Metabolism. Your brain works? Metabolism. Your heart beats? You guessed it.
Long version: metabolism is the sum of all chemical processes in the body — how you convert food into energy, how you use that energy, how you build cells, how you break down old ones.
And most importantly — most of that work happens while you’re doing nothing. While you sleep. While you watch Netflix. While you’re standing in line for coffee.
That’s called basal metabolism. And it makes up 60–75% of everything you burn daily.
That’s why “calories in, calories out” diets don’t work
The biggest myth ever: “if you eat less than you burn, you lose weight.”
Technically true. Practically useless.
Because your body isn’t a calculator. It’s a complex system that reacts to everything — sleep, stress, hormones, food, drinks, muscle mass, age, genetics.
When you drastically cut calories — your metabolism adapts. It slows down. Your body goes into “survival” mode. And suddenly — the same calories that once maintained your weight now make you gain it.
That’s not your fault. That’s biology.
What actually speeds up your metabolism?
Not green tea on its own. Not a “magic” supplement. Not “eat every 3 hours.”
Here’s what actually works:
- Muscles.
Every kilogram of muscle burns more calories than every kilogram of fat — even at rest. That’s why weight training is better for metabolism than hours of cardio. Muscles are metabolically expensive. And that’s good news.
- Sleep.
You haven’t seen someone who sleeps 5 hours and has a great metabolism. Because they don’t exist. Sleep regulates hormones, especially those controlling hunger and satiety. When you don’t sleep — everything is off.
- Active ingredients that help.
Not a magic pill. But a combination of ingredients that actually work — like green tea with EGCG, guarana, mate tea, cayenne pepper, L-carnitine, biotin. Each of them, proven, supports a part of the process.
Green tea — thermogenesis. Guarana — stable energy. Mate tea — metabolism. Cayenne — speeds things up. L-carnitine — transports fat into cells. Biotin — energy metabolism.
6 ingredients, 6 different ways to tell your body “work properly.”
- Proper hydration.
Dehydration slows down metabolism. That’s a fact. If your body doesn’t have enough water — all processes slow down. Including fat metabolism.
What doesn’t work (even though everyone says it does)
Extreme diets.
What you lose in the first two weeks — water and muscle. And when you start eating normally again, everything comes back. Plus extra. Because your metabolism is in “storage” mode.
Skipping breakfast “to speed up metabolism.”
No. Some people respond well to intermittent fasting, others don’t. There’s no one rule. Skipping breakfast because you heard it “speeds up metabolism” — that’s just starvation with marketing.
Only cardio.
You run for an hour, burn 500 calories. You come home hungry, eat 1000. Net gain: zero. And you’ve also lost muscle mass that would have supported your metabolism long term.
Small daily moves that do more than dieting
Walk more. Not “formal cardio walking” — just walking. 10,000 steps a day impacts metabolism more than three gym sessions a week.
Drink water before meals.
Sleep when it’s night. Don’t delay it.
Train with weights — even if it’s light. You’re building a metabolic foundation for everything you do later.
And — add something that gives your body smart ingredients for metabolism — a functional drink with active ingredients can be a useful link. Not magic, but support.
Metabolism is not your enemy
Your metabolism is trying to keep you alive. That’s its job.
When you starve it — it fights back. When you give it what it needs — it works.
And once you realize you don’t have to fight your own body — but work with it — everything becomes easier.
Less frustration. Fewer diets. Less “I’ll start on Monday.”
More results. Without the drama.
